WELCOME!
This is a "first" for me, so I ask that you please bear with the initial set up and creation of this blog.....your patience and attendance here are appreciated!
This blog is intended as a personal project to share with you poems and daily quotations that were written by my mother. She was called "Home" in March of 2010, overtaken by lung cancer. I took on the task of opening her life through the treasures she left behind. In doing so, I came upon a box full of poetry that she had written over the years of my life, as well as her "daily quotes" that she would just jot down at a moment's notice.
My mother inspired my love for poetry from a young age, as well as assisting me in what I perceived as the challenge of writing my thoughts and feelings down on paper. From time to time you may notice a few of my own here, nestled gently in with hers.
I hope that you enjoy what you find here.....feel free to share them, for this is my gift to her and you; the pleasure, comfort and at times humor in the writings of another.

Next group of poems.....
My mother had a love inside of her for Yellowstone like no other. She lived and worked there for several years, and always wanted to return to this land that claimed her heart. It is with deep regret that she was never able to venture back to this part of the country, for her health did not permit her to do so. Several of her writings are about her time there...what she experienced, her love for all of the natural beauty, wildlife, and the emotional impact on her soul. I hope you enjoy these postings as I do, for they bring back cherished memories of a period in time when she was truly able to live, love and experience life's offerings to the fullest.
YELLOWSTONE
it's wound itself
around my heart
this place called Yellowstone
and when it's time
for us to part
I won't leave here alone
with me will go
fond memories
of this my second home
for deep inside
this soul of mine
lives wondrous Yellowstone

TINY THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
"It's not important what you have, but what you are willing to share."
"When you're determined you show strength, but when you're stubborn you're being childish."

who dearly loved chicken fricassee
The more she demanded, the more she expanded

Today's post........
Hello dear ones....
PRAYER OF A WARRIOR
I'm calling you, oh Keeper of my soul....
Your warrior is waiting for you.
I have fought the good fight.
Carry me to Thy bossom....
Cradle me from this harshness called life.
To fly on the wings of my brother, Eagle....
To fly his flight, to soar above this pain....
To Truly be Free.

Dearest friends, guest and random visitors....
My intention for today's postings was quite different than what you actually find here. I felt "guided" if you will, to post these selections and hope that you enjoy them. I cannot thank all of you enough for dropping in and having a look around.
I feel blessed with this purpose...this "labour" of sharing my mother's words with you here. These treasured verses on scrap pieces of paper have opened my eyes and heart, and offered me an intimate glimpse into the creative life of my mother.

TINY THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
"The height of luxury is having a box of chocolates to myself"
"A mountain of dreams pass through this world each day"
"Life is but a shadow of what lies ahead"
"Spread laughter throughout the world - kiss a mouse"

As you walk the narrow path of life
may you find along the way:
shelter from the cold
food to satisfy your hunger
comfort for your pain
strength to continue on
a friend to walk beside you
and the pathway to Heaven

I pray for all the simple things
like rain, and trees, and sun
I pray that I may have a place
to rest when day is done.
I pray that I may reach someone
with a touch or gentle smile
I pray that I may have the strength
to make it that last mile.
I pray that life won't pass me by
like a worthless piece of sod
I pray someday I may reach out
and touch the hand of God.

A few words....
My mother would take advantage of any scrap of paper that was lying around to quickly jot down her quotes or short poems. I have found several written on a single piece of paper, and with the same date...as though the words came easily to her and without hesitation. Her ability to do so amazes me to this day, for my own writings are major undertakings at times...though few have come to me in an instant.
Here are a few of her shorter writings for today's post. Enjoy!

RAIN
If it rains and rains I think I will
Be washed away from atop my hill
Where will I go from off my hill?
Down the road, I think I will
Stop, oh stop, my friends may say
But maybe I'll just drift away
Don't feel sad and please don't cry
Just wave to me as I float by.
CLOUDS
As I ventured on my way
beneath the bright blue sky,
The clouds above all changed shape
as swiftly they rolled by.
So I stopped and gazed in awe
how can this wonder be?
From puffs of smoke to popcorn
twas such a sight to see.
How does this magic come about?
from science I must shirk,
For surely all this beauty can
only be the Lord's work.

Bubbles magically appear
as rain drops land silently
on the steamy concrete.
They dance and glide
across the surface
twirling their way to the end.
Sadly I watch as
they pop and disappear
into the emptiness of infinity.

TINY THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
"It's time to mend your fences and make the roses grow again"
"Love is one of life's greatest miracles"
"The power of love can turn a country girl into a queen"
"To see yourself through others' eyes, you first must open yours"
"The miracle of morning is; watching as God gently moves the clouds aside
so He can hang the Sun"
"When molehills become mountains, get a longer rope"
"The reason an apple a day keeps the doctor away is because they no longer make house calls"

DEAR TEACHER
The things in school are so strange
And you stand so straight and tall;
If you could be inside of me
I know that you'd feel small
The kids in other grades are big
And, gee, they're so much bolder;
I hope to be the same as them
When I get another year older
So, please try to understand
If I make noise and shout;
I'm really not a naughty boy
Although sometimes I pout
I'm just trying to find out
What you want me to do;
And if I've made mistakes sometimes
You'll forgive me please, won't you?

EVERMORE
I listen keenly to the breezes
blowing gently at my door;
Blowing gently through the willow
blowing gently evermore
Sitting there beside the window
watching moon upon the shore;
Hearing breezes blowing gently
blowing gently evermore
Heed how sweetly leaves do rustle
on the willow, side my door;
Tousled gently by the breezes
blowing gently evermore
Speaking softly on the breezes
a voice of love from days of yore;
Whisper tenderly on the breezes
blowing gently evermore
Combing tresses changed to silver
as I listen just once more;
To the breezes blowing gently
blowing gently evermore
Hands that tremble, eyes that flutter
ears that soon will hear no more;
But the breezes will continue
blowing gently evermore

THE TELEPHONE
Ah, the telephone's a marvelous thing
until it starts to ring and ring
Take a shower, bathe or shampoo
and someone yells the phone's for you
Ring! at dawn, during the day
ring at night, please, please go way
Is Joe there? Bob, Betty, Sue?
half the time it isn't for you
But never fear you'll get caught
by someone selling what you've already bought
Alas, we moan, groan, threaten, shout
but the telephone we can't do without

SIMPLE THINGS
It's time to think of simple things
like apple cores and onion rings;
Strolling barefoot on the beach
a juicy pear,just out of reach
Like tiny trees that soon will grow
an empty field that's white with snow;
A flock of slowly grazing sheep
a tiny babe that's gone to sleep
A bird, a flower, a falling star
a bicycle and a noisy car;
Gardens wrapped in morning dew
a puppy playing with a shoe
Rain falling softly on the trees
a nest of busy honey bees;
A bathtub filled up to the top
shining floors and a dirty mop
Homemade soup bubbling in a pan
the insistent tug of a small child's hand;
The dog that barks as the doorbell rings
these are all life's simplest things

I WANT TO GO HOME
Dear God, I am so weary
my mind is filled with pain;
The boy beside me's lying dead
his body's drenched with rain
As darkness closes in on me
please touch me with Thy hand;
Deliver me from this cruel place
return me to my land
My heart is full of things
my eyes will no longer see;
But, Lord, guide me safely home
this war is through with me

MIRACLES
Miracles happen everyday
if you don't believe that's true
just gaze upon a sunrise
hear a child say, "I love you"
Watch the subtle beauty
of clouds racing across the sky
hear the call of a whipoorwill
listen to the ocean cry
Look at the wonder of
the wildflowers as they grow
ever reaching toward the sun
even they seem to know
That miracles happen everyday
yes, I really believe it's true
when God granted me a friend
He picked a friend like you

THE MAILBOX
Each morning bright and early
she walked down off the hill
to the shiny little mailbox
5 years, she's waiting still
Waiting for a letter
from one she loves so much
waiting for a single line
he said he'd keep in touch
The neighbors sadly watched her
with pity in their eyes
but she'd just smile and tell them
I know, someday, he'll write
The mailman waved the letter
his eyes were wide and bright
until a neighbor told him
the lady died last night
The mailbox still is standing
no longer shiny bright
inside the untouched letter
he waited too long to write
The neighbors, they won't tell him
about the lady on the hill
they know his silence hurt her
and so, he's waiting - still
Waiting for a letter
one that will never come
from the lady who really loved him
and sadly died alone
So, if you need to send a letter
don't wait too long to write
remember the lady and the mailbox
that once was shiny bright

**This poem broke my heart when Mother shared it with me. It made me think of just how often we get caught up in our own lives and do not make a phone call, or send a note to those we love. We believe there is always tomorrow..............
