Each morning bright and early
she walked down off the hill
to the shiny little mailbox
5 years, she's waiting still
Waiting for a letter
from one she loves so much
waiting for a single line
he said he'd keep in touch
The neighbors sadly watched her
with pity in their eyes
but she'd just smile and tell them
I know, someday, he'll write
The mailman waved the letter
his eyes were wide and bright
until a neighbor told him
the lady died last night
The mailbox still is standing
no longer shiny bright
inside the untouched letter
he waited too long to write
The neighbors, they won't tell him
about the lady on the hill
they know his silence hurt her
and so, he's waiting - still
Waiting for a letter
one that will never come
from the lady who really loved him
and sadly died alone
So, if you need to send a letter
don't wait too long to write
remember the lady and the mailbox
that once was shiny bright

**This poem broke my heart when Mother shared it with me. It made me think of just how often we get caught up in our own lives and do not make a phone call, or send a note to those we love. We believe there is always tomorrow..............
WELCOME!
This is a "first" for me, so I ask that you please bear with the initial set up and creation of this blog.....your patience and attendance here are appreciated!
This blog is intended as a personal project to share with you poems and daily quotations that were written by my mother. She was called "Home" in March of 2010, overtaken by lung cancer. I took on the task of opening her life through the treasures she left behind. In doing so, I came upon a box full of poetry that she had written over the years of my life, as well as her "daily quotes" that she would just jot down at a moment's notice.
My mother inspired my love for poetry from a young age, as well as assisting me in what I perceived as the challenge of writing my thoughts and feelings down on paper. From time to time you may notice a few of my own here, nestled gently in with hers.
I hope that you enjoy what you find here.....feel free to share them, for this is my gift to her and you; the pleasure, comfort and at times humor in the writings of another.
